6 people, 5 of them children, hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning in Fort Worth

Six people, five of them children, were hospitalized in critical condition Monday night for possible carbon monoxide poisoning, officials told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.

The Fort Worth Fire Department and MedStar responded to a house in the 8500 block of Orleans Lane on Monday evening to find children in the home passed out, WFAA reported. Fire crews found in the garage of the home a vehicle with the engine running.

A child called 911 after noticing their mother feeling unwell and answered the door when fire crews arrived. The residents of the home were taken to the hospital along with five firefighters who went into the house to bring everyone outside.

The firefighters had elevated carbon monoxide levels and were being treated with oxygen.

A spokesperson for the Fort Worth Fire Department did not immediately respond to a Star-Telegram request for information Monday evening.
